Bathtime

First bath today in the babytub, since his cord stump fell off without me a) noticing; b) doing anything to it. Never alcohol swabbed it, never cleaned it in any way. Ah well.

Anyway, I had some trepidation about the bath since he doesn't seem to be very happy with activities that don't involve eating but he totally dug it. Especially since he realized he could totally pee while bathing and could therefore avoid a diaper change (also not his favorite things), I think he would have stayed in all day if I'd have let him.

My neighbors from upstairs came down with their newborn (born the day after Jack). He nurses for like 20 minutes at a time and regularly sleeps for 3+ hour chunks (and has even once slept for 5 hours!!) Jack on the other hand regularly nurses for over an HOUR at a time and will often only sleep for 45 minutes in between feedings. Seriously, don't these babies need sleep at least as much as they need food? I would assume I was doing something wrong with the nursing, but he's definitely latching on and gulping down milk the whole time, so I think he's all good. But these marathon eating sessions are killer.

  1. Totally had the same experience with nursing Max. Once Adrian finally talked me into letting him bottle feed him a little in addition to breastfeeding he started to sleep in much longer chunks (guess he just wasn't a very efficient nurser!) It'll get better...but I know it's a killer at first! Hang in there! XOXO

  2. Seconding Kate. Hang in, Ca. Believe it or not, you may miss the marathon sessions.
